About Chronological Bible Storying : CBS and its various forms for group use, witness to individuals, short-term volunteer mission teaching, ministry in homes, and event for preaching is often referred to as Bible Storying or just by the initials CBS.
It is using carefully selected and prepared Bible stories to evangelize, disciple, plant churches and train leaders. Stories are typically presented in a session that is introduced by an appropriate pre-story dialog to prepare listeners, followed by a post-story dialog to assist listeners to understand the teaching by encouraging discussion of the stories and applying the teaching to their lives.
What makes Bible Storying so important for witness & teaching? The fact is that a large percentage of the unreached world is not literate – not being able to read the Bible even if they had one. Many of these do not have a written language so must be reached orally. Others simply prefer learning orally in groups. A major segment of the unreached world is hostile to traditional Christian teaching or preaching but will listen to stories.
The objectives of Bible Storying are to publish the Bible orally, encourage strategic church planting, disciple believers, and train emerging leaders empowering them to teach the Bible in a form that is understandable, memorable and reproducible for their own people. It has become an important teaching and witness tool among not only Southern Baptist missionaries but all who share in the Great Commission task. Bible Storying is increasingly used in the U.S. among inner city people and among those who prefer orality as a way of learning. Many trained oral leaders can easily tell a hundred or more Bible stories and lead their people to learn from them.
